update on website

I added an extra section for more audience interaction. I created instagram posts of 'photos from tour' and showing which ones are the best. I also added an upload button which when you press shows a popup asking the readers to sign up and add their own picture.

starting the 30 second video

for my 30 second video, I am creating a what inspires the artist. I have started by creating a mock layout adding titles of what I want to say, and then with each inspiration there will be a short clip showing pictures or videos that are linked to the answer. so I have began with the music and family section (adding photos and a video from a concert of a indie/alternative rock band that I went too which is some intertextuality into the genre and then for the family section adding some photos of people that mean something to the 'artist').

progress on website

to the home page this week I added a feature which shows the current merch that is being sold. the element is that when you click the arrow it starts moving in a loop. in addition, when you click on a certain image it pops up into a bigger size of the image of clothing, stating a small description and its price.

I began editing the about page of the website, adding a main box which includes a little introduction to how the artist got into music. in this section I also would like to add a main image of the artist and potentially add smaller size images around that.

for this page, I also want to add my 30 second video clip as this involves talking about what inspires the artist.

starting the editing process of nea

starting the editing process of my music video

this image shows the intro that I have began editing. it involves scenes from my chosen locations such as the park and beach. while editing this scene I paid extra attention to the beat and rhythm of the song to make sure the actual video flowed correctly. however, there are areas which lack in terms of many of the beginning scenes focus on the angles from behind meaning you cannot see the subjects faces. in order to improve I want to replace certain parts and make sure I include more angles and shots of the same video.

in this screenshot it shows the eye scene that I had envisioned. the lyric mentions 'no one tried to read my eyes... no one but you' and what I had in mind was to create a slice of videos of the subjects eyes, cutting them each to around 0.1x so they're short intervals repeating it until the last word when It finally lands on my main subject as shown in the image above. this part took a bit of extra time as I had to make each interval was similar or the same and that it went along with the melody and beat of the song.

for this image, it shows part of my lip singing. this is where I have much to improve in my opinion because I am wearing the colours I suggested, you can see the posters of intertextuality, and there is the added element of the guitar. however I dont believe it matched the theme of the song where it is moody and ethereal. so in order to improve I want to implement the overlay of possibly stars or raining to give into the theme but also maybe even retake this video and have it in a more darker area or during the sunset creating a lens fare. this is what I hope to do for this area

progress on the website: 7/9/26

this is my current progress for my website. I have decided to go for a blue colour scheme highlighting the main theme of isolation and yearning from the song. as you click onto the website the first thing you will visualise is the music video and the title of the song going across it. on top of the video is the bar where it can take you to different pages such as, the about page. as you scroll down it is the album section. I have only created one so far but from the screen shots you are able to see that the album itself acts as a button. when you hover over it you will identify the black cd and once clicked it will take you to a pop up showing the album cover again but also by the side it allows the audience to sign up by giving an email to buy the album. I create more albums giving the exact same idea of it being a button. as you continue down I have the idea of adding merch in order to market the new song and so I will add images of clothing and records showcasing the title and album cover (potentially). furthermore, below the merch column it goes to the 'current' tour dates that will be happening. this is exactly like the album cover button where once you click onto the button labelled 'get tickets' it will show a pop up like seen above announcing the dates for each city.

photoshop

contact sheets for music video website:

when doing this photoshoot a lot of (things) came to light. I realised that you had to think critically about all the details going into the image. for example, photos taken with the black backdrop, you could very clearly see the light coming from the window behind it and therefore I had to compromise; whether that was standing closer or further away from the subject, changing the light settings or the angle it was placed at just to take less attention off of the light peeking through. it was also very important that my subject understood exactly what it was I wanted and needed from the images taken because once I told them they fell quickly into place executing my wishes perfectly. composition was also a key factor to take into consideration. in some images with the blue light we made sure to place in certain areas to highlight features like my eyes or facial expressions and in addition I chose to use the blue colour in order to present the emotions coming from my chosen song which depicts sadness and isolation repeatedly.

nea pitch

feedback -

from creating the pitch some challenging things I had learnt to overcome is mostly editing the subject lip syncing to the lyrics; it is very hard to get it accurate in time with the music and requires a lot of editing and time. when coming up with all the ideas I could to my music video many different elements had come into mind which I, at first, didn't realise would be major factors to think about, for example, clothing (what colour it is to present feelings or stories), just random objects in the mist-en-scene which could help with intertextuality. another thing that I learned from this experience is that not everything will go how you want it to or expect, in terms of ideas not being best suited to the song or even when filming there are many 'distractions' and trying to improve that can be quite difficult. an example from my experience is when filming my 30 second video pitch, the sun was out creating a shadow which is very visible so I know that I need to careful in terms of what angles I film out or even the location.

initial ideas for nea

 initial ideas for my nea:

for my NEA I will be producing a music video. my initial ideas for songs would be:

-iloveitiloveitiloveit by Bella kay

-see you again by Tyler the creator

-are we still friends by Tyler the creator

for this music video I want it to include scenes / create a story which could almost relate to the target audience of 16-25 year olds. this would be including concepts of friendship and love ext...

for locations it is required to have at least two mice-en-scenes and for this my initial ideas of a location in the music video would possibly be at the beach with a sunset, this is because I feel as though many people of that age category love being at a place so scenic and beautiful and that having this in the video would attract those watching and also with any song that I choose I believe it would go well with the vibe and lyrics. another location would possibly a bedroom or just in general a house. this would be because I feel as though many different types of scenes can be captured in a simple location whilst it still creates purpose to the video.

Goodwin and Richard Dyers Theory

A screenshot of a phone

AI-generated content may be incorrect.     https://youtu.be/YQHsXMglC9A?si=NxaRaTXDAO7Xxtqf

Goodwin's theory focuses on all the elements and conventions that go into a music video in order to make it successful and effective. he listed that these conventions involve: genre characteristics; which involve ideas like dance routines and stage performance, lyrics and visuals; the lyrics involved in the music video relates to what the audience can see in the music video, close ups and motifs; this is where music videos constantly show references to where the audience has to look, eg screens within screens, and finally intertextual reference; this being that in the music video it will make a reference to other films, programmes, videos ext. so ultimately Goodwin argues that if artists continue to use these predictable patterns it will create connections and meaning towards the fans, therefore making an effective music video.

in my music video example of 'hello' by Adele Goodwin's theory is expressed by the genre characteristics of Adele having a raw performance in which realistic and strong emotion is presented and felt. the lyrics and visuals of this song can be spotted from the title 'hello' and the location of the video, Adele is seen isolated and 'hello' illustrates how she is calling out to someone when in such a secluded area. in addition, there are a lot of close ups in this video of Adele signing which the audience would be able to visual and depict the emotion coming from her signing suggesting the significance of how she feels and also there are multiple close ups of the man who is thought to be her old 'lover' and that signifies the relationship they had, including the good and bad.

Richard Dyer's star theory involves three main ideas. 1) the star as a construction  2) the star as a commodity  3) the star as an ideology. the celebrity is seen as a manufactured image, meaning they are not just an actual person but they are artificial images articulated by the media industry. celebrities are also seen as products which are designed to be marketed and sold in order to get financial gain. furthermore, celebrities are seen to represent certain groups and beliefs, promoting them to the audience. also part of Dyer's theory is the idea of the central paradox. this is where the celebrity must appear to be ordinary whilst also being extraordinary, and they have to be present whilst also being absent.

in my music video example of 'oops I did it again' by Britney Spears expresses the ideas in the star theory. for example, the star as a construction is shown by Britney wearing the red catsuit. this is because it is not realistic to see many individuals wear that type of outfit daily and so by seeing something unusual in the sense it is not commonly seen creates a massive image which is not easily forgotten. also the star as a commodity is depicted from this song as it was used to expand Britney's brand identity as an artist and it was successful as this video now has 517million views so as a celebrity Britney was effectively marketised where many kept watching this video and bought her merchandise and went to her tours. furthermore the ideology of feminism is reinforced by Britney's lyrics of 'I am not that innocent' which emphasises how it is becoming more common for women to take control and stand for what they want and this is what this lyric connotes, that women are able to be passive or submissive.

The Big Issue - my own copy

this is my design of The Big Issue. I have chosen to do a Christmas theme due to this piece being produced during the Christmas month. in order to present this theme I used colours, such as red, and I also added an element of coloured lights which is what is pictured when it comes to Christmas. I decided that the main story would be on strictly come dancing. this is because I have never actually watched this show and thought it would be interesting to explore on what it actually is about, and when I researching on what would be the main story I noticed they were doing a Christmas special which fit right into the theme. strictly come dancing is a popular British reality tv show about a dance competition where celebrities are paired with professional dancers to perform dances, specifically ballroom, in order to win the glitter ball trophy. they do these Christmas specials for the seasonal and festive entertainment. furthermore, The Big Issue regularly includes a political story on there front cover and when I was researching I came across the news from the Guardian on Nigel Farage. it states ' Nigel Farage has been told to apologise for his alleged teenage racism by 26 school contemporaries who have written an open letter telling of their "dismay and anger" at his response in recent weeks. ' this story fascinated me as it involved students sharing their thoughts on what their experience with Nigel Farage and since The Big Issue is left leaning I thought that it would be a perfect example on showing what views they don't support, and from my chosen story that is showing racism to anyone. when creating this issue the most important part that needed to be added was their slogan " a hand up not a handout " and this is because it is on every one of their issues and further promotes their goal in helping those in homelessness.
